We are safely in Ghana!
So we graduated on Sunday and had to get to Minneapolis that night.. and on the way, right outside of Madison, our water pump broke. So, our car overheated and we couldn’t drive it– with 5 hours left to go in the trip! So we called AAA, they came and got the car, and then we took it to a towing & service place. Thankfully, our friend Josh is picking the car up when the Toyota dealer is done working on it, and we got to Minneapolis at 2:30AM on Monday morning because DJ drove us there. God has given us such great friends!
Then, we realized that the travel agent messed up the flights and that we were on the earlier flight at 2:30pm to Ghana… So we had to get ready quickly and get to the airport! But we made it to Ghana on time and our flight from Frankfurt, Germany to Accra was SWEET. Like, the Lufthansa planes have touch-screens where you can watch movies, tv shows, and listen to music.
Being in Ghana is really cool… it’s beautiful, and the people are SO friendly. Our team is also bonding really well, so it’s been sweet. We are staying in a hostel where we have beds and fans, but no running water on our floor! So it’s really frustrating, but we’ve been able to shower in other rooms of the Cru staff that’s in Ghana or out of buckets (not as great). It’s amazing how much a shower can brighten your mood.
We’re going to the Volta region tomorrow, and will be there until June 5. There, we’re visiting villages, orphanages, and clinics… So just pray for our safe travels to that region and that we don’t get sick! There are a lot more bugs and mosquitoes up there, so it’s a little disconcerting 🙂 Sorry for the short update, but hopefully we’ll be able to get a longer one in soon!!! 🙂
